On June 12, 2003 the White Settlement Fire Department, under the direction of Chief Jimmy Burnett, conducted  a full scale Hazardous Material training exercise. Rescue 8, Pumps 1, 2, and 3 responded to the scene of a simulated Chlorine cylinder leak in a city water treatment facility. Upon arrival  a young male was noticed slumped against a 14X14 cinder block building which housed the leaking Chlorine cylinder. Immediately a primary and secondary team consisting of 2 men each suited up in full Haz-Mat suits and advanced towards the victim.  An initial hazard determination was reported to command and the victim was extracted and taken through decontamination.  The secondary team moved in to contain and control the hazard as firemen supported the scene with fire suppression.

Overall the exercise was considered a success. However Chief Burnett did point out minor weakness' which were noticed during the exercise. This is the purpose of training. The citizens of White Settlement can rest easier .

knowing their volunteer firemen are continually sacrificing their time in order to become the best professional respondents possible.
