The White Settlement Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on the 900 block of Mirike in the city. The first units rolled onto the scene to find a one story brick residence fully involved. It was reported that the fire could be seen from the opposite side of the city as firemen were responding to the fire station. They had the fire under control after considerable effort. No one was in the residence. The structure was a total loss. Units were on the scene for 3 hours overhauling the scene. The cause is still under investigation.

Ironically this fire was one half block from where I live. However it was the first time in 5 years that my pager failed and I was not able to make the scene until the fire  was put out. Although I grieved about missing a "big one" and the great photos I could have taken, I was reminded that what I do is about the men who place their lives on the line each time they respond to a call. They are heroes in my estimation.
